Hand Safety During COVID-19
As the primary purpose of our business is to keep you and your hands safe, we would be remiss if we didn’t emphasize the importance of hand washing during this time. Gloves may have their place in dealing with this outbreak, however, hand washing should not be underestimated as the single best thing you can do to prevent viral transmission.
Hand safety has been our mission since we opened our doors 10 years ago. All of our gloves have been meticulously engineered to keep workers hands safe on the job. With that said, we are aware that some customers may be looking for gloves to protect themselves from the novel coronavirus.
Our Nitrile Powder Free Examination Gloves used by medical and emergency personnel are undoubtedly the best option, however, we’ve reserved these gloves for healthcare workers, nurses, doctors, and those on the front lines of COVID-19.
For those in Search and Rescue who work in hazardous situations with murky water or the possibility of impact, our Deep III Barrier, used for extricating people out of dangerous conditions, has an antimicrobial barrier lining that protects the skin from bacteria, as well as passing ASTM F1670/F1670M-17a, a test for penetration of blood and body fluids (bloodborne pathogens). Because of the amount of protection this glove provides, it does not have the same amount of dexterity that a nitrile examination glove has, but it protects the hands in severe conditions.
While not providing an absolute barrier against dangerous microscopic organisms like COVID-19, our newest C-Series gloves provide a significant level of protection. These gloves are dipped in either heavy- or moderate-duty nitrile depending on the model. The most suitable option for protection against the virus is the C-14 which is nitrile dipped to the wrist. And for cold temperature use, the insulated and nitrile dipped to the wrist C-15 is a good option. The C-14 and C-15 can be washed and sanitized for repeated use. Many of the gloves in this series offer the dexterity needed for light mechanical and intricate tasks. The C-40 is a flexible nitrile dipped glove that offers excellent dexterity with the added benefit of ANSI Level 4 cut protection. Here are the ANSI Levels explained.
Proper Glove Use
Keeping your hands clean is the best defense against COVID-19. Wearing gloves does not replace proper hygiene, and improper glove use can lead to a false sense of security. When taking your gloves off, remember not to touch the exterior of the glove in order to prevent contamination. Most importantly, keep both your bare hands and your gloved hands away from your face and facial openings.
Make sure you are regularly cleaning your Cestus gloves with the exception of leather series gloves. For instructions on how to clean your Cestus gloves please see our infographic here: Cleaning Instructions.
